About
Ayaplaces is dedicated to helping older adults find the products and services they need to remain in their homes — living safely, comfortably, and joyfully — for as long as possible. To this end, we offer home safety assessments, a concierge service, and an easy-to-navigate online store featuring "best in class" home accessories, housewares and home care products.
Our team of living-in-place specialists, project managers and product experts are all passionately committed to satisfying the needs of our target audiences (older adults, adult children, caregivers) and to delivering extraordinary customer experiences.
Please look around and let us know what you think. The practices that we follow and preach are research-based and recommended by leading industry experts. The products that we curate and offer are highly select in regard to both functionality and design. (In other words, they work and look great!) However, we don't know everything and serving the needs of older adults is definitely a team sport, involving input from – and coordination with – a wide variety of stakeholders – from end users and caregivers to designers and product experts to occupational therapists and other health care professionals.
Please contact us with any and all questions, suggestions or general comments.
What Motivates Us
Jonathan Denholtz
Co-Founder
I’ve spent the bulk of my career as a producer and entrepreneur working at the intersection of digital media and education. However, I recently turned my attention to the “aging in place” market after my own father suffered a catastrophic fall at home. His home was never assessed nor equipped to minimize the chance of tripping and other safety risks.
My hope is that Ayaplaces can help others avoid the financial and emotional toll associated with a serious fall at home and that Ayaplaces makes it easier for older adults to continue to live and thrive in the comfort of their own homes.

Why "Ayaplaces"
The word "Aya" – which is the root of our company name – comes from the African Adrinkra symbol for fern, a beautiful and hardy plant that grows in difficult places and that represents endurance and resourcefulness. We're inspired by this symbol and feel it's particularly apt given our company's passionate commitment to helping older adults live full and independent lives in the comfort of their own homes.
